UK Food Bloggers Association

Well I suppose that's what it was - I got an e-mail from someone who was representing Nestle (scream), and wanted me to write a post with a recipe using one of their products. They were prepared to "negotiate a fee"!

I loathe and detest Nestle, and never buy anything of theirs, so I wrote a Polite response explaining why I couldn't accept, and thanking them for their interest.

What would you have done?

I would have only done the same, I'm reguarly contacted by companies and only feature things on my blog from companies I use.

Umm a life times supply of Smarties might have been hard to say NO to ;)

But apart from that part of the point of food blogging is that we are saying what we think and I'm sure Nestle would have wanted editorial rights etc. I think its going to be interesting to watch how the big corporates use real bloggers and twitter to drive sales.....

You were right to say no.

If I ever get such an invitation from any company whose products I would not choose to buy for ethical reasons, I would certainly do as you did and politely refuse their request.

Should I ever get such an invitation from a company whose products I would or already do buy, I'd consider the offer, dependent on some of the details, not least of which would be an understanding that my post would a) make it clear that I'd been paid to try the product and b) provide my honest opinion, including any negative feedback if warranted.

Should I ever get such an invitation from a company that I had nothing against but whose products I would not normally buy, it would depend on the product and company.

If I like and use their products, why the fuck not...

One of my favourite breweries asked to sponsor my blog which means I get sent beer by them - I like that kind of thing!! If I didn't like/use the company/product then I'd have to think a bit harder. If it's just one post then I guess I wouldn't mind (unless I had ethical reasons to dislike them), plus it could be a good chance to experiment with something new.

there's a good deal !

Nestle condensed milk takes some beating :-)

I've said no to most deals I've been offered ... you can really only say yes to something you genuinely use or like or you lose all credibility, I'm talking to one of my favourite drink companies too at the moment ... if it comes off it will pay a bit but hopefully I'll get cheap/free booze too !

For instance I would never do anything to promote meat...that would be hypocritical ...

I get a lot of e-mails, majority of which I turn down. Quite a few companies just want free advertising for nothing. As others have said, if you like the product and think your readers might too then is worth posting, if it results in you get a few goodies too then I am all for it.

I'd be very happy to advertise Caviar or champagne on my site.... As long as they sent me lots of samples ... hahaha

I suppose one might look at it as a 'challenge', mmm....could be thinking about it for a long time though!

I took a bit of break from blogging and all of a sudden got all these offers for free stuff! I love a good freebie but if a company want me to review their products in return then they better prepare for me to be brutally honest about it. I won't rave about something unless I genuinely love it and if I hate it then I'm gonna say so.

I did get a load of goodies from Kelloggs that I never got round to blogging about but they never outright asked me to, nehmoind!
