I know from your blogs that at least some of you on here have one of these so wanted some opinions/feedback. Are they worth the cost? I've seen that kenwood to some for half the price but imagine they aren't as good.

I really like the look of the kitchenAid and have been dreaming of having one for some time but never thought I would be able to get one. Now I have been given £400 with the strict instructions to spend it on myself (although I think my gran was thinking I would spend it on a holiday) on something I enjoy. I'm struggling a bit with whether I can justify £350 on a kitchen appliance! I make all my own bread/pizza's and have done for the past year. I have a cheap (£30) bread machine that I only use to mix the dough nowadays and am getting a bit restricted by the size of it (400g flour). I try to eat healthy so won't be whipping up cakes every week so I'm a little worried it will sit around gathering dust (but still looking good!). Any views on mixers good or bad appreciated.

Thanks
Claire

Wow, that is impressive. I've banned my other half from using it unsupervised! I don't think hes that interested in using it but he is impressed that I made biscotti in whilst cooking tea - something I would never have done before I got a kitchenaid.

I have just found an unexpected side-effect...

... getting the chap at home into the kitchen! He made these partly to get on my blog (I think he's elbowing me out the way) but also to use the Kitchen Aid (to mix the sponge, and to beat the two different types of cream). I feel I need more kitchen gadgets!

I thought about a Kitchenaid but instead went for a Magimix foodprocessor. I ADORE it and don't regret the cost at all! (Got it last year). That probably doesn't help does it?

Kavita,

What Magimix did you go for? I've been looking at the 4200 and 5200. It seems that more people are happy with the 4200 than the 5200?!?

As a former chef and one that now has own food business which i run from home i would be a little cautious with regards the kitchen aid. they are okay for occasional use and light usage but the gears can be a bit fragile. I have managed to break a few esp when making bread dough and using mincer attachment.
Personally i would go for a 1000w kenwood for about the same money and superior motor.
However, many people go for looks these days hence the kitchen aid popularity.
Another reason for the kenwood would be size of bowl..............far bigger.
Utensils much better quality
It all depends on how often you use it and how much load you give it.
Saying all of that i have broken a 100w kenwood also..............but took much longer to break
hope this helps
Word of advice.
If wanting to mince meat etc............buy a separate mincer do not start buying attachments. These will wear down motor far quicker

I have a "domestic" lime green stand mixer. I love mine too but I think the whisk is not that good as it creates air bubbles of varying sizes. Maybe I am not using it correctly.

All in all, a good investment.
