UK Food Bloggers Association

At long last here it is. Let's share tips, blog posts and recipes right here. I'll link to this discussion on the home page to share with all our visitors.

P.S. Please let me know if you have a great asparagus picture I can use for the feature on the home page - a credit will be given. I've put one of my own up but I think it's nicer to feature members' ones where possible.

Holding firmly to the vital principles of keeping food simple, fresh and local
I'm a big fan of steamed asparagus dipped (soldier style) into soft boiled eggs
With perhaps a little butter and freshly ground pepper thrown in for good measure

You know, I think I'm going to have that for lunch now. Thanks for the inspiration!

Let's hope it's a good season this year - I do love asparagus and wait all year for it to arrive...
One of my favourite things to do (other than the standard melted butter or hollandaise) is to grill it with spring onions and serve with olive oil, balsamic and parmesan - recipe here: http://www.superfood.blog-city.com/grilled_asparagus_and_spring_oni...

All my peelings, offcuts and scraps go into a bag in the freezer to make stock for the risotto I make with the last bunch of the season...

Yes Rob, I love asparagus 'soldier style' too. Alas it is too early for local asparagus here in Toronto but I have posted about them . While I love hollandaise sauce with them this recipe is also good.
And I have a note about the "asparagus pee"
Do you know that while everyone who eats asparagus has "asparagus pee" not everyone has the ability to smell the compound!

@Jennifer
I guess the infamous after effect was bound to get a mention in this discussion
Although I didn't know that some people lack the ability to detect it

(Getting back to the consuming side of the equation...)
Hollandaise is extremely good
I s'pose soft boiled egg and butter is the lunch-in-a-hurry equivalent

By coincidence I used an asparagus shot in an early attempt at developing the Eat Pictures brand (here)
But I must confess that I took that asparagus picture at a little French market last year
So it doesn't really qualify for an appearance in a British Asparagus thread

I have a simple Roast Asparagus with Serrano ham - see here.

The saltiness of the Serrano is a sublime contrast!

I was delighted to find organic asparagus last Thursday - so tender I have never tasted anything like it before...
