Well I watched the first episode yesterday - cringing quite a lot. It struck me that how could you use (a) packet (cheap) smoked salmon for Ramond Blanc and (b) why didn't one of the chefs make his own stock in advance? It was painful!

It was quite scary actually. I think only one of the pairs looked like they might be able to handle their own restaurant and even that was debatable.

The mother and daughter who made the coconut mousse mess were downright shocking. I'm no knife expert but OMG! Had they never been in a kitchen before?

I had to watch that through my fingers - it looked like they were about to lose some of theirs!

You are in a professional kitchen, trying to open a tin, why does a Wusthof and a rolling pin spring to mind before a can opener!!!!??!?

I know - how awful was that to watch?! Have these people no sense at all?!

Yes, it's a shame that the producers out of 5000 applicants decided to choose 9 couples who the majority do not seem to have any real passion or interest in great food. Felt a bit like watching the apprentice. Mind you can't wait for next week's episode!

It was certainly unbelievably bad. I loved the cocky boys from the cocktail bar that wanted to do 'picnic food' made me laugh so much. As for the knife wielding women - unbelievable. What planet are these people on? Mind you you have to be mad to want to run a restaurant, so guess all the good cooks and sensible business people stayed home - lol!

I didn't like the two cocky boys - that 'thing' with the winking at Raymond was a bit odd! In fact Mark - I agree - with all those applicants .............. they were the best?

Just awful, cringe making and exploitaive. I'm sure they could give these people a more rigorous test

It was really pretty shocking.. He seems to have completely rejected the idea of quality contestants for what is considered 'good televsion' e.g. people who couldn't boil an egg!
It actually makes me frustarated that in this climate such people have an opportunity, when they clearly don't deserve it! grrrrrrr

We watched as well, open mouthed in horror at the daft women with the knife ,also the gravadlax I dont think cheap and nasty smoked salmon much of a comparison .Actually quite liked the Army chap ,which made us think why not do a masterchef armed forces special , I would like to see that much more than celebrities.
I cant wait for the next episode at the moment they all seem pretty bad but things can only get better!

Just watched tonight's episode, it's already completely ridiculous - I just wonder how much editing goes on with these things.

Well I watched it. Car crash TV. I think they fired the wrong couple (I hate the yuppies) but I think now its clear who the final two couples are going to be. Though the army lads might yet come in with a late run
