This was the gingerbread sold at the old Welsh Fairs
3/4lb flour 1/2 ts bicarb. soda 1 ts cream of tartar
6 ozs demerara sugar
1/4lb butter
2 ozs chopped candied peel
6 ozs treacle warmed slightly and mixed with 1 gill of milk.
Add soda, tartar to flour well sifted. Rub butter in, add sugar and peel, mix with treacle and milk. Bake in greased tin for 1 1/2 hour. Lush!!
